Last weekend the International One
Loft Race Derby Arona in Tenerife was on the programme for the 4th
time. This 4th edition also saw an exponential growth in the number of
enrolments for the 4th time in a row. In Tenerife, Jose Ledesma,
founder of this One Loft Race, gave us a personal account of his
successful project.
Vorig weekend stond voor de 4e maal
de Internationale One Loft Race Derby Arona in Tenerife op het
programma. Deze 4e editie betekende ook voor de 4e maal op rij een
exponentiële groei in het aantal inschrijvingen. Jose Ledesma,
oprichter van deze One Loft Race, gaf ons in Tenerife persoonlijk
tekst en uitleg bij zijn succesvol project.
Hallo tenerife,
it´s now one week ago, that we have won the race, but we think it´s de
day before yesterday.
Thank you for all your work that you have whit the race. It was
wonderful when we came over your guest friendly the evening meal, whit
7 different countries at one table. The hotel was perfect.
The day when we wait for the pigeons, all the food and drinks are very
good, many people from all over the world are waiting for the pigeons.
They are all very friendly. The evening gala was very nice. Good
program, lovely food. But the best was:
To handle 12.000 euros cash !!

enjoyed 1 wonderful week in Tenerife. From the beginning on, with you

PiPa will only participate in 4 one loft races
in 2009, one of them is Derby Arona. I was there to join the final
race a few years ago and I have never seen a more fanatic,
professional, honest organisation than the organisation of this one
loft race in Tenerife. I can strongly advise any pigeon sportsman in
the world to join this race. PiPa will also hold the auction of the
TOP 10 ace pigeon birds and the TOP 10 birds in the final race. PiPa
only does it because PiPa believes very strongly in the quality of
this race.

Basketing will start
Thursday
at 10:00 a.m. on 9 April 2009. You are most welcome to
come and see the condition of your pigeons at basketing for the main
race.
The pigeon's electronic ring will be scanned and its ring number will
be displayed on the computer screen. The Auditor will then publicly
read out the ring number to all fanciers that are present at the
basketing for their verification that the information is correct.
Once basketing is completed the pigeons leave for Fuerteventura
Island.

International Arona-TENERIFE
DUE TO BE HELD IN TENERIFE, CANARY ISLANDS ON SATURDAY 25th APRIL 2009
25 COUNTRIES HAVE ENTERED APPROXIMATELY 1,500 PIGEONS (Estimated for
30 September)
This
great international pigeon race is now in its fourth year after having
started off way back in 2005 with under 555 pigeons in its first year.
Since then entries have increased dramatically with this the 4th Derby
International Arona-TENERIFE in 2008 attracting a staggering 1,500
pigeons. When you consider all the problems and restrictions that have
been implemented because of outbreaks of Avian Influenza and Newcastle
Disease around the world over the last few years, plus many other one
loft races trying to compete with the 4th Derby International Arona-TENERIFE.
It really is truly amazing that entries have managed to stay so high,
as in the space of three years the entries have actually tripled.
However, with all the problems around the world that have affected
entries into the 4th Derby International Arona-TENERIFE being held in
2008/2009, the organising committee are proud to announce that they
have managed to achieve a grand total of around 1,500 pigeons, which
consists of about 700 International and 800 Spanish pigeons being
entered into the race which will be held in the fabulous Playa de las
Américas - Arona City, Tenerife – Canary Islands on Saturday 25th
April 2008.
Of course, one of the main reasons for the success of this race is the
extremely professional way it has been run from the start, in that
they have always paid out their projected prize money every year since
the race started way back in 2005. The race is now known the world
over as “THE MOST DIFFICULT & EXCITING PIGEON RACE IN THE WORLD” and
has been tagged as “THE ROLLS ROYCE OF ALL ONE LOFT RACES”.
The
organising committee of “Ledesma International Racing Pigeons
Activities of Arona”, are The Presenters Of This Race, José Ledesma,
Race Director, Inma Bello, Public Relations, Carmen Gladys and the
Chief Veterinary Officer, plus of course all the Country Shippers who
are once again endeavoring to increase entries for the next race.

Of course, as mentioned earlier, we all knew that this would be a hard
task and the first thing that was to be done was for the current web
site to be upgraded once again so that even more information was
available to the competitors/entrants. After many years of hard work
by José Ledesma, this has now been achieved as anybody logging onto
the brand new state of the art, revamped web site www.derbyarona.com
will be able to see a wealth of additional information is available.
The “HITS” on this web site have increased from 100,000 for the 2005
race to 500,000 for the 2008 race series. The web site has once again
been updated with everything now up and running and it is anticipated
that this web site could attract somewhere in the region of 1 to 2
million or more “HITS” during the full 2008/2009 race series. This
just demonstrates the sheer volume of interest shown in this great
international pigeon race by pigeon fanciers from literally all over
the world. Information is on line for all to see, so why not join in
the fun over the next few months and add this web site to your
favourites list as there will be 16 weekly races right through our
winter/Spring months for you to enjoy and study.
We can now proudly reveal to the world of pigeon fanciers that the
entry for the 2009 Derby International Arona-TENERIFE will be
represented by about 26 different countries and the total amount of
entries has reached 1,500 pigeons and the total is made up as follows:-

[24], CASTELLON [22], SEVILLA [20], QATAR [20], RUMANIA [20], HOLANDA
[18], TARRAGONA [17], ENGLAND [15], WALES [15], BAHRAIN [15], AUSTRIA
[13], MALTA [13], CADIZ [10], KSA [9], MADRID [9], ESLOVAQUIA [9],
MALAGA [8], UAE [8], ARGENTINA [8], MURCIA [7], COLOMBIA [6], ZARAGOZA
[5], VALENCIANA [5], CORDOBA [5], CUBA [4], IRAQ [4], EL HIERRO [3],
CHINA [3], ALMERIA [3], GOMERA [2], IRLANDA [2], TOLEDO [2] and
CROACIA [1]. Will come pigeons from BULGARIA, MOROCCO and PORTUGAL in
next weeks. This will make a grand total of 1,500 pigeons, which is
made up of 700 International and 800 Spanish pigeons. Unfortunately
because of certain export/import restrictions there were no entries
from HONG KONG, ITALY or NORWAY. Congratulations once again go to all
the Country Race Shippers for again obtaining so many pigeons for this
truly International Pigeon Race, you are truly worth your weight in
gold as without all your hard work and effort the race would never get
off the ground.
Once
again the marketing for this race never stops and as one race finishes
the next one starts, but that is really what makes this event such an
exciting international race. Of course, if a certain country does not
do well in past races, it actually becomes very much harder for the
Country Race Shippers to convince fanciers to enter, because fanciers
feel they have no chance to win any of the major prizes. Therefore it
has always been the policy of this race to create many more
competitions that offer cash rewards or special prizes and once again
this year is no exception with numerous additional new competitions
where fanciers could win something in the Hot Spot Races in the run-up
to the Final Race. The total in cash and prizes in the 2009 race will
exceed Euro 32,000 or approximately $40,000 American Dollars. No other
one-loft race in Spain today can boast of such massive payouts and
this race has now been in existence for many years and has every year
paid out its projected prize money, that is why its reputation has
increased, which is a remarkable achievement in itself in one loft
racing and one that the race organisers are justifiably very proud of.
Basket training is already underway and numerous short training tosses
will take place over the next few months and the race organisers will
be notifying fanciers/entrants of the progress of their entries. The
training and race program will then consist of daily training tosses (except
Sundays) and also a race every Saturday.
“THE FINAL RACE” on Saturday 25th April 2009 is 300km over the sea
(190 miles). The weather conditions will have to be right for all of
these races to take place, if not they will be basketed and liberated
on another day when the weather forecast is better. The Race
Director’s decision will be final as the object of this great race
from day one has always been to get as many pigeons to the “FINAL
RACE” as possible, which gives all fanciers/competitors/entrants a
fair chance in the “FINAL RACE”.

This is the “FOURTH YEAR” since this great International One Loft Race
started and every year since day one the Organising Committee have
created new competitions and this year will be no exception, more on
this as details come through. I am also fairly positive that once
again Ledesma International Racing Pigeons Activities of Arona will be
going out of their way to make sure everybody has a fantastic time in
the fabulous Playa de las Américas – Mare Nostrum Resort.
As in
past years, you could as usual be organising an 8 day (7 nights) “TRIP
OF A LIFETIME” to watch and be part of this fantastic race where you
will meet lots of top fanciers from literally all over the world,
whilst at the same time enjoy the fantastic Canary Islands scenery,
weather, food, beer and of course the superb Canary Islands

The race date for the 5th Derby International Arona-TENERIFE has
already been agreed and this will once again take place in Tenerife,
